Iceland Days 3 & 4

I promise we wont update you on every day of this trip, but Jacke is forcing me to write another blog since we “received positive feedback” a.k.a her mom chuckled at my last post, and we all know how hard it is to make Jacke and Terri laugh…. Anyways, back to business.

Day 3 was out of this world! We didn’t think there was any way to top the beauty of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, but somehow managed to do so. At multiple stops along the way we had to pinch ourselves and ask if this was actually real life. Our entire bodies were numb to the world from the beauty of the Icelandic landscape.

We started off visiting the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall where you actually get to hike behind the falls (check out the instagram link, as Jacke is still trying to work on this blog/photo thing). This was a little more touristy than we were expecting, as our previous road trip barely had people around. None the less… jaws dropped.

Next was the Skogafoss. Out of the 200 plus waterfalls we’ve seen here, this was our favorite. Just the sheer size and magnitude of this fall draws you closer and closer to it before you finally reach the bottom. We were lucky enough to have it to ourselves for a brief moment prior to making our way to the peak. Then we found a nice ledge to hang over the waterfall and take a pic of the surroundings, but of course Jacke had to ruin it by coming over to makeout and have strangers document it…

We didn’t get to make our way to the plane wreck (next time), but we did find ourselves eating lunch atop of mountain overlooking the Ocean and beaches (Jacke makes a good PBJ). This lead up to the lava formed Dyrholaey Peninsula, which was another area that left us speechless. From here we had views of the ocean, black sand beaches, fields of flowers, green hilltops, and glacier covered mountains in the background… didn’t know this was possible, but Iceland has lead me to believe anything in nature is possible here.

The Town of Vik is essentially the gateway to Black Sand Beach (one of the top rated beaches in the world) and stacks of basalt rock. Definitely worth a visit if in the area, as I’ve never seen a beach quite like it. We were on the fence about traveling further, but glad we did as the next stop was our favorite. Of course Jacke took a power nap, but we drove through miles and miles of purple flower fields, followed by miles of lava fields (all over the island). This lead to Fjadragljufur. I’m more of the nature buff out of the two of us, but I think Jacke even sh*t herself when we saw this stunning canyon. Check out the Instagram or google this, but it’s a must on any trip to Iceland and most definitely worth the drive!

So that was day 3, and for anyone who is still actually reading this (thanks grandma!), we will get started on day 4! This was a little underwhelming compared to the previous two days. The Golden circle. This is all over Iceland blogs and considered a “must!” Iceland hasn’t been very touristy… until now. Buses and buses full of crazy tourists with drones, cameras, tripods, selfie sticks, etc getting off at each stop. Yea, we saw some cool stuff, but NOTHING in comparison to the previous two days. It’s a teaser of what actual Iceland has to offer, and I’m on the border about recommending. Thingervellir National Park (eh), Geyser (cool for about 10 minutes), Gulfoss (bad ass but Jacke says I have an obsession with waterfalls), and Kerid lake (not worth it) were cool, but again… we’ve been spoiled the past 2 days.

Ohhh and one last stop along the Golden Circle. The Fridheimar Farm. I asked Jacke to do a little research for the trip to ensure she was included in going to places she wanted. Of all the things this place has to offer she recommended an elf house (really?) and a Tomato Farm… so I asked myself over and over again “Why on Earth would Jacke want to visit a greenhouse tomato farm? I don’t even know if she likes tomatoes…” Then she tells me on the way, that she saw the Kardashians came here. Ahhh it all makes sense now why Jacke would want to see some tomatoes (and now we’ve lost all 5 followers. Thank you, Jacke!)…. We walk into the greenhouse and look at the menu… I had the Kim Kardashian ‘cry face’ going on as a Bloody Mary was $18 and tomato soup with bread was $23… I know someone in the back is cracking open cans of Campbell’s and throwing some basil on the side, while all of these green tomatoes are just for show. To Jacke’s displeasure… we left the tomato farm and the Kardashian prices behind, and made our way home. Instead, we have a couple of bottles of wine, she’s cooking another bomb meal, and we’re heading to downtown Reykjavik for a walk on the town tonight.

Takeaway from day 3 and 4:

Jacke’s feet smell worse and she’s not going to be around for day 5 and 6 if she asks me to take one more damn selfie.
